Templates for Notes

Whether for documentation purposes or creating wiki-like articles, Clinked's Notes feature is a powerful tool for your portal. However, if you need to create multiple notes in a similar format, this task can take more time than you anticipated. 

The templates function on Notes shaves off the repetitive work and allows you to implement a previously created template into a new note, saving a lot of time and effort.

How to create a new template

In this section you will find the instructions on how to create a new template from scratch. 

  1. Navigate to Notes section in a group. You can create the template on the root level or in a note folder.
  2. Click 'New Note' button
  3. Type in the name and description. Optionally, you can add a tag as well.
  4. Set the sharing options and permissions
  5. Toggle on the 'Set as template' option.
  6. Click 'Save' button and your template will be ready.

Please note that enabling the template toggle (step 5 above) is necessary to create a template. Existing notes cannot be edited into a template.

How to implement a template into a note

Now that you created a template, you are ready to implement it to any new or existing notes. Follow the instructions below to proceed;

  1. Click the 'New Note' button to create new note or alternatively click the 'Edit' button on an existing note
  2. Click 'File' on the text editor toolbar
  3. Select 'Load template' to open the list of existing templates
  4. Select a templates
  5. Click 'Load' button to implement it into your note
  6. Make any changes as necessary
  7. Click the 'Save' button at the bottom to finish

Please remember that templates are shared only on the group level, similar to notes. This means that a template created in one group cannot be used in another group. You will have to create another template for other groups if you wish to use it on multiple groups.
